You and I are in a diner sitting on opposite sides of a table. In the middle of the table there’s a coffee mug. From your perspective it’s a plain mug; from my perspective it has a happy face on it. There are not two different realities – just two different perspectives. The mug, reality, exists independent of the mind, independent of perspective, feelings or emotions.
Perhaps you are a collector of coffee mugs. You pick up the mug to examine it from different perspectives; you see the happy face, you feel the weight; you check the bottom for a manufactures logo. Me, I’m just hoping to get a coffee.
The more we are interested, the more we value a particular aspect of reality, the greater the number of perspectives we will, or should employ.
When it comes to human relationships, it is wise to listen, wise to see where they are coming from, wise to identify their perspective on a particular aspect of reality before passing judgment. And above all, it’s wise to remember there’s only one reality, but many perspectives.
